suggest的用法及意思，動詞suggest有如下一些用法:
一、 有"建議"的意思.advise, propose 也有此義,請比較它們用法的異同:
1) 都可接名詞作賓語
She suggested / advised / proposed an early start. 她建議早一點出發(fā).
We suggested / advised / proposed a visit to the museum the next day. 我們建議明天去參觀博物館.
2) 都可接動名詞作賓語
I suggested / advised / proposed putting off the sports meet. 我建議將運動會延期.
They suggested / advised / proposed waiting until the proper time. 他們建議(我們)等到恰當?shù)臅r機才行動.
3) 都可接that 賓語從句,that從句用should+動詞原形,should可以省略.
She suggested / advised / proposed that the class meeting (should) not be held on Saturday. 她建議班會不要在星期六舉行.
We suggested / advised / proposed that he (should) go and make an apology to his teacher. 我們建議他去向老師道歉.
4) advise 可接動詞不定式復合賓語,propose 可接不定式作賓語.
I advised him to give up the foolish idea. = I suggested / proposed his / him giving up the foolish idea. 我建議他放棄那愚蠢的念頭.(suggest和propose在口語里可接動名詞的復合賓語).
We proposed to start early. = We proposed starting early. 我們建議早一點出發(fā).(接不定式不用suggest和advise)
二、 有"提出"的意思.如:
He suggested a different plan to his boss. 他向老板提出了一個不同的計劃.
Xiao Wang suggested a way to solve the problem. 小王提出了一個解決這個問題的辦法.
三、 有"暗示、表明"的意思.其主語往往是事物,而不是人.
1)接名詞或動名詞作賓語.
The simple house suggested a modest income. 這座簡樸的房子表明(房主的)收入并不高.
Her pale face suggested bad health. 她臉色蒼白,看來身體不好.
The thought of summer suggests swimming. 一想到夏天就使人們聯(lián)想到游泳.
2)接賓語從句,從句用陳述語氣.如:
The decision suggested that he might bring his family. 這個決定表明他可以把家屬帶來.
The expression on his face suggested that he was very angry. 他臉上的表情表明他很生氣.
四、 在主語從句It is suggested that... 及名詞suggestion 后面表示具體建議的表語從句、同位語從句都應用should+動詞原形,should可以省略.如:
It was suggested that we (should) give a performance at the party. 人們建議我們在晚會上表演節(jié)目.
His suggestion was that the debts (should) be paid off first. 他的建議是先把債務還清.
The doctors made a suggestion that the new hospital (should) not be set up on the hill. 醫(yī)生們建議不要把新醫(yī)院建在山上.
知識總結：Suggest句式容易出錯，使用的時候需要注意
這幾天天氣開始冷了，又到了吃火鍋的日子了，肯定會有很多人建議去吃火鍋什么的。那提建議的話用英語該怎么說呢？比如“我提議去飯店吃午飯”是不是應該說“I suggest to go to a restaurant for lunch”。再比如“我提議Peter替我們定位”是不是“I suggest Peter to book a table for us”。那這兩句對不對呢？
如果用中文來想，這兩句都沒有錯。但問題在于“Suggest”這個詞的用法是不應該帶不定式“To”的，它應該帶動名詞，就是在動詞后加“ing”，這與上次講的“Dream”有類似的用法。所以第一句應該是“I suggest going to a restaurant for lunch”。這就是說，如果說“提議去做什么”，都不需要用“To”。比如：
“I suggest going to the park”
“我提議去公園”
“He suggests waiting until the rain stops”
“他提議等到雨停為止”
那么第二句“我提議Peter替我們訂位”是不是可以改為“I suggest Peter booking a table for us”呢？這是不可以的，凡是“Suggest”后面，接賓語從句的話，就要用動詞的原型，不應該用動名詞。也就是說這句應該改為“I suggest Peter book a table for us”。但是我們要留意“Peter”前面可以加“That”，而“Book”前面可以加“Should”。就算“Suggest”加“ed”，后面的動詞要用動詞的原型，不應該加“ed”。
那如果我說“He suggests me to get a job in a bank”，這又對不對呢？這也是錯的，總之，“Suggest”不能夠和賓語加動詞不定式的結構一起用，也就是“Suggest”后面可以加“ing”形式或“That”的從句。我們可以改為“He suggests that I get a job in a bank”，“I”后面有沒有“Should”都可以。
也可以改為“He suggets getting a job in a bank”，但是這里沒有“我”，我們可以在“Getting”前面加上“My”。比如“我提議你申請那份工作”，如果要用“ing”形式，又要保留“你”的意思，可以說“I suggest your applying for the job”。而如果用“You”當做“Your”，是非正式用法。當然，最好用“That”的從句，成為“I suggest that you apply for the job”。再多幾個例子，比如：
“I suggest that we leave early for the airport”
“我提議我們早點去機場”
“Mary suggested that he should wear a jacket”
“Mary提議他穿件外套”
如果有信心不會用錯的話，就可以不用“That”和不用“Should”，最保險的就是又加“That”又加“Should”。
